Pigment granules in choroidal melanophores of the albino goldfish. 1978

I K Takeuchi, and Y K Takeuchi, and T Kajishima

Pigment granules in choroidal melanophores of the albino goldfish contained fine particulate materials which were in various degrees aggregated in clumps. Tyrosinase was considered to be present in an inhibited state in these pigment granules.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008543 Melanins Insoluble polymers of TYROSINE derivatives found in and causing darkness in skin (SKIN PIGMENTATION), hair, and feathers providing protection against SUNBURN induced by SUNLIGHT. CAROTENES contribute yellow and red coloration. Allomelanins,Melanin,Phaeomelanins
D008547 Melanophores Chromatophores (large pigment cells of fish, amphibia, reptiles and many invertebrates) which contain melanin. Short term color changes are brought about by an active redistribution of the melanophores pigment containing organelles (MELANOSOMES). Mammals do not have melanophores; however they have retained smaller pigment cells known as MELANOCYTES. Melanophore
D003530 Cyprinidae A family of freshwater fish comprising the minnows or CARPS. Barbels,Chub,Dace,Minnows,Roach (Fish),Shiner,Tench,Tinca,Barbus,Rutilus rutilus,Tinca tinca,Chubs,Shiners,Tinca tincas, tinca, Tinca
D006054 Goldfish Common name for Carassius auratus, a type of carp (CARPS). Carassius auratus
D006651 Histocytochemistry Study of intracellular distribution of chemicals, reaction sites, enzymes, etc., by means of staining reactions, radioactive isotope uptake, selective metal distribution in electron microscopy, or other methods. Cytochemistry
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D014442 Monophenol Monooxygenase An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the reaction between L-tyrosine, L-dopa, and oxygen to yield L-dopa, dopaquinone, and water. It is a copper protein that acts also on catechols, catalyzing some of the same reactions as CATECHOL OXIDASE. EC 1.14.18.1. Dopa Oxidase,Phenoloxidase,Tyrosinase,Cresolase,Phenol Oxidase,Phenoloxidase A,Phenoloxidase B,Monooxygenase, Monophenol,Oxidase, Dopa,Oxidase, Phenol
