I Monies-Chass, and D Herer, and U Alon, and H J Birkhahn

A case of a child with allergic vasculitis to penicillin is presented. The patient received successful treatment with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. The pathophysiological mechanism of acute peripheral anoxia and the infleunce of HBO treatment on it is described.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007511 Ischemia A hypoperfusion of the BLOOD through an organ or tissue caused by a PATHOLOGIC CONSTRICTION or obstruction of its BLOOD VESSELS, or an absence of BLOOD CIRCULATION. Ischemias
D007866 Leg The inferior part of the lower extremity between the KNEE and the ANKLE. Legs
D010406 Penicillins A group of antibiotics that contain 6-aminopenicillanic acid with a side chain attached to the 6-amino group. The penicillin nucleus is the chief structural requirement for biological activity. The side-chain structure determines many of the antibacterial and pharmacological characteristics. D006931 Hyperbaric Oxygenation The therapeutic intermittent administration of oxygen in a chamber at greater than sea-level atmospheric pressures (three atmospheres). It is considered effective treatment for air and gas embolisms, smoke inhalation, acute carbon monoxide poisoning, caisson disease, clostridial gangrene, etc. (From Segen, Dictionary of Modern Medicine, 1992).
