Mental health. Suitable cases for treatment? 1998

P Campling
Francis Dixon Lodge, Leicester, UK.

Common misconceptions that people with severe personality disorders are 'undeserving and untreatable' often prevent them getting specialist treatment. A stay of at least six months in a specialist residential 'therapeutic community' can give significant improvements for 75 per cent of clients. Research has shown that treatment may pay for itself within two years and can result in a significant reduction in use of inpatient psychiatric beds.
