Concentration of thyroxine, tri-iodothyronine and thyroglobulin in the thyroid lymph. 1976

B Persson, and J G Ljunggren, and P O Granberg

Human thyroid lymphatic fluid was collected from 8 patients operated upon for thyroid tumours. All tumours were of small size and localized to one lobe. The lymph was collected from the side opposite the tumour. The levels of thyroxine and tri-iodothyronine in the lymph were determined by a radioimmunoassay technique in 7 of the patients. The thyroglobulin content of thyroidal lymph from one patient was analysed. The results demonstrate higher levels of thyroxine and tri-iodothyronine in the human thyroid lymphatic fluid as compared with those seen in peripheral or thyroid venous blood. Evidence for the presence of thyroglobulin in the human thyroid lymphatic fluid was obtained.

D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D011863 Radioimmunoassay Classic quantitative assay for detection of antigen-antibody reactions using a radioactively labeled substance (radioligand) either directly or indirectly to measure the binding of the unlabeled substance to a specific antibody or other receptor system. Non-immunogenic substances (e.g., haptens) can be measured if coupled to larger carrier proteins (e.g., bovine gamma-globulin or human serum albumin) capable of inducing antibody formation. Radioimmunoassays

D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D000368 Aged A person 65 years of age or older. For a person older than 79 years, AGED, 80 AND OVER is available. Elderly
D013954 Thyroglobulin
D013961 Thyroid Gland A highly vascularized endocrine gland consisting of two lobes joined by a thin band of tissue with one lobe on each side of the TRACHEA. It secretes THYROID HORMONES from the follicular cells and CALCITONIN from the parafollicular cells thereby regulating METABOLISM and CALCIUM level in blood, respectively.
