[Stimulating effect of histones on DNA synthesis in the regenerating rat liver]. 1976

Effect of exogenous histones, nuclear globulins and acid proteins on DNA synthesis is studied in regenerating liver of rats in which the synthesis of their own proteins and thus DNA replication are inhibited by cycloheximide. In these conditions histones from regenerating rat liver are found to stimulate 3H-thymidine incorporation into DNA of hepatectomyzed rat liver. Nuclear globulins and acid proteins from regenerating liver, and histones from intact liver produced no stimulating effect on DNA sythesis.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007553 Isotope Labeling Techniques for labeling a substance with a stable or radioactive isotope. It is not used for articles involving labeled substances unless the methods of labeling are substantively discussed. Tracers that may be labeled include chemical substances, cells, or microorganisms. D008099 Liver A large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates that is responsible for detoxification, metabolism, synthesis and storage of various substances. Livers
D008115 Liver Regeneration Repair or renewal of hepatic tissue. Liver Regenerations,Regeneration, Liver,Regenerations, Liver
D008239 Lysine An essential amino acid. It is often added to animal feed. Enisyl,L-Lysine,Lysine Acetate,Lysine Hydrochloride,Acetate, Lysine,L Lysine
D008297 Male Males
D009698 Nucleoproteins Proteins conjugated with nucleic acids. Nucleoprotein
D003513 Cycloheximide Antibiotic substance isolated from streptomycin-producing strains of Streptomyces griseus. It acts by inhibiting elongation during protein synthesis. Actidione,Cicloheximide
D004247 DNA A deoxyribonucleotide polymer that is the primary genetic material of all cells. Eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms normally contain DNA in a double-stranded state, yet several important biological processes transiently involve single-stranded regions. DNA, which consists of a polysugar-phosphate backbone possessing projections of purines (adenine and guanine) and pyrimidines (thymine and cytosine), forms a double helix that is held together by hydrogen bonds between these purines and pyrimidines (adenine to thymine and guanine to cytosine). D004261 DNA Replication The process by which a DNA molecule is duplicated. Autonomous Replication,Replication, Autonomous,Autonomous Replications,DNA Replications,Replication, DNA,Replications, Autonomous,Replications, DNA
D005916 Globulins A group of proteins that are salt-soluble and form a large fraction of BLOOD PROTEINS. There are three types of globulins, ALPHA-GLOBULINS, BETA-GLOBULINS, and GAMMA-GLOBULINS, which are distinguished from one another by their degree of electrophoretic mobility. Globulin
