Electrophysiologic studies and transcatheter ablation: what are their roles in modern hospital practice? 1988

Electrophysiologic studies (EPS) are often useful in managing patients with cardiac arrhythmias, while transcatheter ablation, an investigational technology, holds promise as a cure for many of these disorders. Hospitals seeking to establish themselves as centers for arrhythmia treatment must offer EPS; it is important, however, that they exercise caution before permitting transcatheter ablation, as this technology carries a significant mortality rate with one major category of patients.
