[Microsurgical anatomy of cholesteatoma of posterior cranial fossa]. 1999

Microtopographical interrelations of the posterior cranial fossa structures in the presence of cholesteatoma were studied up intraoperatively in 36 cases and while the pathomorphological investigation conduction in 6 sectional observations. Cholesteatoma mostly localizes in cerebellopontile angle and more rarely--in the IV ventricle with craniospinal spreading. It is the tumor's capsule texture what causes dense adherence of cholesteatoma with surrounding cranial nerves, vessels, incorporated frequently in her structure together with underlying cerebral substance.

D002781 Cholesteatoma A non-neoplastic mass of keratin-producing squamous EPITHELIUM, frequently occurring in the MENINGES; bones of the skull, and most commonly in the MIDDLE EAR and MASTOID region. Cholesteatoma can be congenital or acquired. Cholesteatoma is not a tumor nor is it associated with high CHOLESTEROL. Cholesteatomas
D003388 Cranial Fossa, Posterior The infratentorial compartment that contains the CEREBELLUM and BRAIN STEM. It is formed by the posterior third of the superior surface of the body of the sphenoid (SPHENOID BONE), by the occipital, the petrous, and mastoid portions of the TEMPORAL BONE, and the posterior inferior angle of the PARIETAL BONE.
