[Hypothenar hammer syndrome]. 1999

Hypothenar Hammer Syndrome (HHS) is a rare injury. It usually occurs in the dominant hand of middle-aged men whose occupational or recreational activities require the use of the hypothenar of the hand as a hammer. A case of HHS with Raynaud's phenomenon is presented. Ultrasound duplex and colour scanning revealed an aneurysm with thrombosis of the ulnar artery adjacent to the hook of the hamate. Ligation of the ulnar artery was performed which eliminated the flow in the pseudoaneurysm and prevented further microembolisation to the fingers.
