The syndrome of defects which characterise the cleft lip and palate patient undergoing secondary surgery is listed, and the traditional system of multiple sequential operations for its correction is challenged. A single stage combined procedure is described which permits the correction of maxillary collapse and hypoplasia to be combined with closure of an anterior palatal fistula and lip revision, together with some improvement of abnormal nasal appearance.
