[Light and electron microscopic studies on the reepithelization of free connective tissue grafts]. 1975

H C Plagmann, and D E Lange, and J P Bernimoulin, and C Wegner

1. In mini-pigs epithelium-free connective tissue grafts were transplanted from the cheek to the palate as well as from the palate to the area of the alveolar mucosa. 2. In the palatal transplant area (hard palate) epithelium without keratinization was observed after five months. But after 7 to 11 months orthokeratinized epithelium without any structural differenced from the neighboring palate was found. 3. In the alveolar mucosal transplant area, in some parts similarities to palatal epithelium were found after 5 to 7 months. 4. It could not be found that there was a gradual difference between buccal and platal connective tissue with regard to their inductive influence on epithelial differentiation.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008854 Microscopy, Electron Microscopy using an electron beam, instead of light, to visualize the sample, thereby allowing much greater magnification. The interactions of ELECTRONS with specimens are used to provide information about the fine structure of that specimen. In TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY the reactions of the electrons that are transmitted through the specimen are imaged. In SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY an electron beam falls at a non-normal angle on the specimen and the image is derived from the reactions occurring above the plane of the specimen. Electron Microscopy
D009061 Mouth Mucosa Lining of the ORAL CAVITY, including mucosa on the GUMS; the PALATE; the LIP; the CHEEK; floor of the mouth; and other structures. The mucosa is generally a nonkeratinized stratified squamous EPITHELIUM covering muscle, bone, or glands but can show varying degree of keratinization at specific locations. D010159 Palate The structure that forms the roof of the mouth. It consists of the anterior hard palate (PALATE, HARD) and the posterior soft palate (PALATE, SOFT). Incisive Papilla,Incisive Papillas,Palates,Papilla, Incisive,Papillas, Incisive
D002454 Cell Differentiation Progressive restriction of the developmental potential and increasing specialization of function that leads to the formation of specialized cells, tissues, and organs. Differentiation, Cell,Cell Differentiations,Differentiations, Cell
D002610 Cheek The part of the face that is below the eye and to the side of the nose and mouth. Bucca,Buccas,Cheeks
D003238 Connective Tissue Tissue that supports and binds other tissues. It consists of CONNECTIVE TISSUE CELLS embedded in a large amount of EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX. Connective Tissues,Tissue, Connective,Tissues, Connective
D004847 Epithelial Cells Cells that line the inner and outer surfaces of the body by forming cellular layers (EPITHELIUM) or masses. Epithelial cells lining the SKIN; the MOUTH; the NOSE; and the ANAL CANAL derive from ectoderm; those lining the RESPIRATORY SYSTEM and the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM derive from endoderm; others (CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM and LYMPHATIC SYSTEM) derive from mesoderm. Epithelial cells can be classified mainly by cell shape and function into squamous, glandular and transitional epithelial cells. D000539 Alveolar Process The thickest and spongiest part of the maxilla and mandible hollowed out into deep cavities for the teeth. Alveolar Ridge,Alveolar Processes,Process, Alveolar,Processes, Alveolar,Ridge, Alveolar
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D013552 Swine Any of various animals that constitute the family Suidae and comprise stout-bodied, short-legged omnivorous mammals with thick skin, usually covered with coarse bristles, a rather long mobile snout, and small tail. Included are the genera Babyrousa, Phacochoerus (wart hogs), and Sus, the latter containing the domestic pig (see SUS SCROFA).
