Improving pneumococcal vaccination rates for elderly patients. 2000

T Gruber, and R Marada
Long Branch Health Center, Hahnemann University School of Medicine, USA.

Last year, the pneumococcal vaccination rate of 32% in our elderly clinic population was, like that of the state of New Jersey, well below the Healthy People 2000 target of 60% to 80%. During a nine-month period in which intervention strategies, including education and standing orders for nurses, were implemented, we achieved an improved rate of 63%.
