Spontaneous rosette formation with heavily haptenated sheep erythrocytes: a marker for mouse non-T lymphocytes. 1975

O Mäkelä, and S Kontiainen, and L C Andersson

Most non-T lymphocytes in nonimmunized mice spontaneously bind heavily haptenated (4-hydroxy-3,5-dinitrophenyl)acetyl (NNP)-sheep erythrocytes. Few if any T lymphocytes are rosette formers with such erythrocytes. The NNP rosette formation is suggested to be a marker for mouse non-T cells.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007104 Immune Adherence Reaction A method for the detection of very small quantities of antibody in which the antigen-antibody-complement complex adheres to indicator cells, usually primate erythrocytes or nonprimate blood platelets. The reaction is dependent on the number of bound C3 molecules on the C3b receptor sites of the indicator cell. D008810 Mice, Inbred C57BL One of the first INBRED MOUSE STRAINS to be sequenced. This strain is commonly used as genetic background for transgenic mouse models. Refractory to many tumors, this strain is also preferred model for studying role of genetic variations in development of diseases. D004140 Dinitrophenols Organic compounds that contain two nitro groups attached to a phenol.
D004912 Erythrocytes Red blood cells. Mature erythrocytes are non-nucleated, biconcave disks containing HEMOGLOBIN whose function is to transport OXYGEN. D006241 Haptens Small antigenic determinants capable of eliciting an immune response only when coupled to a carrier. Haptens bind to antibodies but by themselves cannot elicit an antibody response. Hapten,Contact-Sensitizing Agents,Agents, Contact-Sensitizing,Contact Sensitizing Agents
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
