[Cytogenetic effects of chloroquine in a culture of human lymphocytes]. 1976

M A Shalumashvili, and Ia A Sigidin

Chloroquine added to human lymphocyte culture at the G1 stage had no influcence on the chromosome aberration level in the concentration of 15 mug/ml and suppressed the mitotic activity of the cells almost completely in the concentration of 60 and 100 mug/ml. At the G2 stage chloroquine in the concentration of 15 mug/ml had no cytogenetic effect and in the concentration of 100 mug/ml -- it increased the number of chromosome aberrations significantly.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008214 Lymphocytes White blood cells formed in the body's lymphoid tissue. The nucleus is round or ovoid with coarse, irregularly clumped chromatin while the cytoplasm is typically pale blue with azurophilic (if any) granules. Most lymphocytes can be classified as either T or B (with subpopulations of each), or NATURAL KILLER CELLS. Lymphoid Cells,Cell, Lymphoid,Cells, Lymphoid,Lymphocyte,Lymphoid Cell
D008938 Mitosis A type of CELL NUCLEUS division by means of which the two daughter nuclei normally receive identical complements of the number of CHROMOSOMES of the somatic cells of the species. D002478 Cells, Cultured Cells propagated in vitro in special media conducive to their growth. Cultured cells are used to study developmental, morphologic, metabolic, physiologic, and genetic processes, among others. Cultured Cells,Cell, Cultured,Cultured Cell
D002738 Chloroquine The prototypical antimalarial agent with a mechanism that is not well understood. It has also been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and in the systemic therapy of amebic liver abscesses.
