OBJECTIVE To report a case of monozygotic twinning after atypical hatching of a human blastocyst. METHODS Case report. METHODS University-based IVF program. METHODS A 33-year-old woman with tubal sterility. METHODS Embryo transfer of a human blastocyst with atypical hatching. METHODS Development to the blastocyst stage, hatching process, follow-up of pregnancy. RESULTS Development of a monozygotic dichorial pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS First report of an atypical hatching of a human blastocyst leading to dichorial monozygotic twinning.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011247 Pregnancy The status during which female mammals carry their developing young (EMBRYOS or FETUSES) in utero before birth, beginning from FERTILIZATION to BIRTH. Gestation,Pregnancies
D011272 Pregnancy, Multiple The condition of carrying two or more FETUSES simultaneously. Multiple Pregnancy,Multiple Pregnancies,Pregnancies, Multiple
D001755 Blastocyst A post-MORULA preimplantation mammalian embryo that develops from a 32-cell stage into a fluid-filled hollow ball of over a hundred cells. A blastocyst has two distinctive tissues. The outer layer of trophoblasts gives rise to extra-embryonic tissues. The inner cell mass gives rise to the embryonic disc and eventual embryo proper. D004624 Embryo Transfer The transfer of mammalian embryos from an in vivo or in vitro environment to a suitable host to improve pregnancy or gestational outcome in human or animal. In human fertility treatment programs, preimplantation embryos ranging from the 4-cell stage to the blastocyst stage are transferred to the uterine cavity between 3-5 days after FERTILIZATION IN VITRO.
