[Resistance of Staphylococcus-aureus strains, isolated from food, to antibiotics]. 1979

J Lukásová, and H Jarchovská

Resistance to selected antibiotics was studied in 325 strains of Staphylococcus aureus, isolated from foodstuffs. Out of these strains, 50.46% were resistant to penicillin, 15.7% to ampicillin, 4% to streptomycin, 5.2% to erythromycin, 5.8% to chloramphenicol, 18.5% to tetracycline, 18.2% to oxytetracycline, 2.5% to gentamycin, 1.6% to canamycin, 53.5% to colistine and 9.2% to bacitracin. Eighty-five strains (26.15%) were sensitive to all the antibiotics used; 107 strains (32.92%) were resistant to one antibiotic, and 133 strains (40.93%) to two or more antibiotics.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007612 Kanamycin Antibiotic complex produced by Streptomyces kanamyceticus from Japanese soil. Comprises 3 components: kanamycin A, the major component, and kanamycins B and C, the minor components. Kanamycin A,Kanamycin Sulfate,Kantrex
D010118 Oxytetracycline A TETRACYCLINE analog isolated from the actinomycete STREPTOMYCES RIMOSUS and used in a wide variety of clinical conditions. Hydroxytetracycline,Bisolvomycin,Geomycin,Oxyterracin,Oxyterracine,Oxytetracid,Oxytetracycline Anhydrous,Oxytetracycline Calcium,Oxytetracycline Dihydrate,Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride,Oxytetracycline Monohydrochloride,Oxytetracycline Sulfate (2:1),Oxytetracycline, (4a beta,5 beta,5a beta,12a beta)-Isomer,Oxytetracycline, (5 beta)-Isomer,Oxytetracycline, Anhydrous,Oxytetracycline, Calcium (1:1) Salt,Oxytetracycline, Disodium Salt, Dihydrate,Oxytetracycline, Sodium Salt,Terramycin
D010406 Penicillins A group of antibiotics that contain 6-aminopenicillanic acid with a side chain attached to the 6-amino group. The penicillin nucleus is the chief structural requirement for biological activity. The side-chain structure determines many of the antibacterial and pharmacological characteristics. (Goodman and Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, 8th ed, p1065) Antibiotics, Penicillin,Penicillin,Penicillin Antibiotics
D002701 Chloramphenicol An antibiotic first isolated from cultures of Streptomyces venequelae in 1947 but now produced synthetically. It has a relatively simple structure and was the first broad-spectrum antibiotic to be discovered. It acts by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis and is mainly bacteriostatic. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 29th ed, p106) Cloranfenicol,Kloramfenikol,Levomycetin,Amphenicol,Amphenicols,Chlornitromycin,Chlorocid,Chloromycetin,Detreomycin,Ophthochlor,Syntomycin
D003091 Colistin Cyclic polypeptide antibiotic from Bacillus colistinus. It is composed of Polymyxins E1 and E2 (or Colistins A, B, and C) which act as detergents on cell membranes. Colistin is less toxic than Polymyxin B, but otherwise similar; the methanesulfonate is used orally. Polymyxin E,Colimycin,Colisticin,Colistin Sulfate,Coly-Mycin,Totazina,Sulfate, Colistin
D004917 Erythromycin A bacteriostatic antibiotic macrolide produced by Streptomyces erythreus. Erythromycin A is considered its major active component. In sensitive organisms, it inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 50S ribosomal subunits. This binding process inhibits peptidyl transferase activity and interferes with translocation of amino acids during translation and assembly of proteins. Erycette,Erymax,Erythromycin A,Erythromycin C,Erythromycin Lactate,Erythromycin Phosphate,Ilotycin,T-Stat,Lactate, Erythromycin,Phosphate, Erythromycin,T Stat,TStat
D005516 Food Microbiology The presence of bacteria, viruses, and fungi in food and food products. This term is not restricted to pathogenic organisms: the presence of various non-pathogenic bacteria and fungi in cheeses and wines, for example, is included in this concept. Microbiology, Food
D005839 Gentamicins A complex of closely related aminoglycosides obtained from MICROMONOSPORA purpurea and related species. They are broad-spectrum antibiotics, but may cause ear and kidney damage. They act to inhibit PROTEIN BIOSYNTHESIS. Gentamicin Sulfate (USP),Gentamycin,G-Myticin,Garamycin,Gentacycol,Gentamicin,Gentamicin Sulfate,Gentamycins,Gentavet,Genticin,G Myticin,GMyticin,Sulfate, Gentamicin
D000667 Ampicillin Semi-synthetic derivative of penicillin that functions as an orally active broad-spectrum antibiotic. Penicillin, Aminobenzyl,Amcill,Aminobenzylpenicillin,Ampicillin Sodium,Ampicillin Trihydrate,Antibiotic KS-R1,Omnipen,Pentrexyl,Polycillin,Ukapen,Aminobenzyl Penicillin,Antibiotic KS R1,KS-R1, Antibiotic,Sodium, Ampicillin,Trihydrate, Ampicillin
D000900 Anti-Bacterial Agents Substances that inhibit the growth or reproduction of BACTERIA. Anti-Bacterial Agent,Anti-Bacterial Compound,Anti-Mycobacterial Agent,Antibacterial Agent,Antibiotics,Antimycobacterial Agent,Bacteriocidal Agent,Bacteriocide,Anti-Bacterial Compounds,Anti-Mycobacterial Agents,Antibacterial Agents,Antibiotic,Antimycobacterial Agents,Bacteriocidal Agents,Bacteriocides,Agent, Anti-Bacterial,Agent, Anti-Mycobacterial,Agent, Antibacterial,Agent, Antimycobacterial,Agent, Bacteriocidal,Agents, Anti-Bacterial,Agents, Anti-Mycobacterial,Agents, Antibacterial,Agents, Antimycobacterial,Agents, Bacteriocidal,Anti Bacterial Agent,Anti Bacterial Agents,Anti Bacterial Compound,Anti Bacterial Compounds,Anti Mycobacterial Agent,Anti Mycobacterial Agents,Compound, Anti-Bacterial,Compounds, Anti-Bacterial
