Inactivation of slow reacting substance of anaphylaxis (SRS-A) by lipoxidase. 1979

P Sirois

Lipoxidase (E.C.1.13.1.13) inactivates rat SRS-A. The inactivation is time, temperature, and concentration-dependent. Linoleic acid and eicosatetraynoic acid inhibit the enzymatic deactivation of the mediator. It is concluded that SRS-A is a genuine substrate for lipoxidase and contains a cis, cis-1, 4-pentadiene structure. It is suggested that lipoxidase could play a major role in tissue removal of the mediator during hypersensitivity reactions.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008041 Linoleic Acids Eighteen-carbon essential fatty acids that contain two double bonds. Acids, Linoleic
D008084 Lipoxygenase An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class primarily found in PLANTS. It catalyzes reactions between linoleate and other fatty acids and oxygen to form hydroperoxy-fatty acid derivatives. Lipoxidase,Linoleate-Oxygen Oxidoreductase,Lipoxygenase-1,Lipoxygenase-2,Linoleate Oxygen Oxidoreductase,Lipoxygenase 1,Lipoxygenase 2,Oxidoreductase, Linoleate-Oxygen
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D001095 Arachidonic Acids Eicosatetraenoic Acids,Acids, Arachidonic,Acids, Eicosatetraenoic
D013189 SRS-A A group of LEUKOTRIENES; (LTC4; LTD4; and LTE4) that is the major mediator of BRONCHOCONSTRICTION; HYPERSENSITIVITY; and other allergic reactions. Earlier studies described a "slow-reacting substance of ANAPHYLAXIS" released from lung by cobra venom or after anaphylactic shock. The relationship between SRS-A leukotrienes was established by UV which showed the presence of the conjugated triene. (From Merck Index, 11th ed) Slow Reacting Substance of Anaphylaxis
D013696 Temperature The property of objects that determines the direction of heat flow when they are placed in direct thermal contact. The temperature is the energy of microscopic motions (vibrational and translational) of the particles of atoms. Temperatures
D013997 Time Factors Elements of limited time intervals, contributing to particular results or situations. Time Series,Factor, Time,Time Factor
