Adverse reactions (aseptic meningitis) from 111-indium-DTPA cisternographic examinations. 1975

V Jayabalan, and D White, and M Bank

Cisternographic examinations have become a relatively common procedure in the evaluation of patients with suspected communicating hydrocephalus. Adverse reactions to radiopharmaceuticals are relatively uncommon, particularly with the commonly used agents such as 111-In-DTPA and 169-Yb-DTPA. Adverse reactions after lumbar intrathecal instillation of 111-In-DTPA in three patients are described.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007204 Indium A metallic element, atomic number 49, atomic weight 114.818, symbol In. It is named from its blue line in the spectrum.
D007223 Infant A child between 1 and 23 months of age. Infants
D008297 Male Males
D008581 Meningitis Inflammation of the coverings of the brain and/or spinal cord, which consist of the PIA MATER; ARACHNOID; and DURA MATER. Infections (viral, bacterial, and fungal) are the most common causes of this condition, but subarachnoid hemorrhage (HEMORRHAGES, SUBARACHNOID), chemical irritation (chemical MENINGITIS), granulomatous conditions, neoplastic conditions (CARCINOMATOUS MENINGITIS), and other inflammatory conditions may produce this syndrome. D011877 Radionuclide Imaging The production of an image obtained by cameras that detect the radioactive emissions of an injected radionuclide as it has distributed differentially throughout tissues in the body. The image obtained from a moving detector is called a scan, while the image obtained from a stationary camera device is called a scintiphotograph.
