Prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) is the histologic lesion most strongly associated with prostate cancer and has been postulated to be a pre-malignant lesion. However, much of the natural history of PIN remains unknown. A more fundamental understanding of the relationship between PIN and invasive tumors at the molecular level is critically needed and represents an important future challenge for investigators. The importance of their recognition are based on the correlation between their presence and the existence of prostatic adenocarcinomas. It seemed significant to us to point out the criteria of the diagnosis and the action to be taken in front of the discovery of such lesions on biopsies in prostate sufferers.

D001706 Biopsy Removal and pathologic examination of specimens from the living body. Biopsies
D017430 Prostate-Specific Antigen A glycoprotein that is a kallikrein-like serine proteinase and an esterase, produced by epithelial cells of both normal and malignant prostate tissue. It is an important marker for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Kallikrein hK3,gamma-Seminoprotein,hK3 Kallikrein,Prostate Specific Antigen,Semenogelase,Seminin,Kallikrein, hK3,gamma Seminoprotein
D019048 Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia A premalignant change arising in the prostatic epithelium, regarded as the most important and most likely precursor of prostatic adenocarcinoma. The neoplasia takes the form of an intra-acinar or ductal proliferation of secretory cells with unequivocal nuclear anaplasia, which corresponds to nuclear grade 2 and 3 invasive prostate cancer.
