Sensory Jacksonian seizures triggered by a frontally-located meningioma. 1979

A patient who presented with sensory Jacksonian seizures and no other clinical symptoms was found to have a meningioma in the premotor area of the frontal lobe. The possibility that brain oedema caused by the tumour encroached on the supplementary motor area and triggered the seizures via cortico-cortical pathways is discussed.

D008579	Meningioma	A relatively common neoplasm of the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM that arises from arachnoidal cells. The majority are well differentiated vascular tumors which grow slowly and have a low potential to be invasive, although malignant subtypes occur. Meningiomas have a predilection to arise from the parasagittal region, cerebral convexity, sphenoidal ridge, olfactory groove, and SPINAL CANAL. Partial seizures are divided into simple and complex, depending on whether consciousness is unaltered (simple partial seizure) or disturbed (complex partial seizure). Both types may feature a wide variety of motor, sensory, and autonomic symptoms. Partial seizures may be classified by associated clinical features or anatomic location of the seizure focus. A secondary generalized seizure refers to a partial seizure that spreads to involve the brain diffusely.
