[Action of clostridial spores on transplantation tumors in alloxan-diabetic rats (author's transl)]. 1975

R Ludewig, and K Hambsch, and H Kretschmer

With the intention to improve the up to now unsatisfying effectiveness of tumour treatment by clostridial spores, the influence of Alloxan-induced hyperlglycemia on clostridial therapy in two transplantable tumours of the rat are examined. Contrary to the isolated clostridial application the combined treatment causes a significant improvement of therapeutic effects (tumour-necrosis and -liquefaction, decreased growth-rate-quotient). The examination of antibody titers against clostridial rods shows in animals with Alloxan-diabetes a more early and more powerful increase in comparison with the isolated clostridial application. The importance of these results for therapy and serological diagnosis of malignant tumours is discussed.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007165 Immunosuppression Therapy Deliberate prevention or diminution of the host's immune response. It may be nonspecific as in the administration of immunosuppressive agents (drugs or radiation) or by lymphocyte depletion or may be specific as in desensitization or the simultaneous administration of antigen and immunosuppressive drugs. D002279 Carcinoma 256, Walker A transplantable carcinoma of the rat that originally appeared spontaneously in the mammary gland of a pregnant albino rat, and which now resembles a carcinoma in young transplants and a sarcoma in older transplants. D003013 Clostridium A genus of motile or nonmotile gram-positive bacteria of the family Clostridiaceae. Many species have been identified with some being pathogenic. They occur in water, soil, and in the intestinal tract of humans and lower animals.
D003520 Cyclophosphamide Precursor of an alkylating nitrogen mustard antineoplastic and immunosuppressive agent that must be activated in the LIVER to form the active aldophosphamide. It has been used in the treatment of LYMPHOMA and LEUKEMIA. Its side effect, ALOPECIA, has been used for defleecing sheep. Cyclophosphamide may also cause sterility, birth defects, mutations, and cancer. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
