[The effect of hydrocortisone on DNA synthesis by sebaceous gland epithelial cells]. 1976

R Zh Kinzhibulatova

The autoradiography method demonstrated a single injection of hydrocortisone (10 mg per 100 g of body weight) to result in suppression of the cell transition from the G1 phase of the mitotic cycle to the S phase and in prolongation of the S phase of the epithelium of the acinar portion (sebocytes) and stratified epithelium of the excretory ducts of the sebaceous gland of rats. Later, after a decrease of the proliferative processes by hydrocortisone there occurred their increase which was higher than control. Hydrocortisone induced a more pronounced effect on the proliferative activity of the stratified epithelium of the excretory ducts than on the sebocytes of the acini.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D008938 Mitosis A type of CELL NUCLEUS division by means of which the two daughter nuclei normally receive identical complements of the number of CHROMOSOMES of the somatic cells of the species. M Phase, Mitotic,Mitotic M Phase,M Phases, Mitotic,Mitoses,Mitotic M Phases,Phase, Mitotic M,Phases, Mitotic M
D004247 DNA A deoxyribonucleotide polymer that is the primary genetic material of all cells. Eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms normally contain DNA in a double-stranded state, yet several important biological processes transiently involve single-stranded regions. DNA, which consists of a polysugar-phosphate backbone possessing projections of purines (adenine and guanine) and pyrimidines (thymine and cytosine), forms a double helix that is held together by hydrogen bonds between these purines and pyrimidines (adenine to thymine and guanine to cytosine). D006854 Hydrocortisone The main glucocorticoid secreted by the ADRENAL CORTEX. Its synthetic counterpart is used, either as an injection or topically, in the treatment of inflammation, allergy, collagen diseases, asthma, adrenocortical deficiency, shock, and some neoplastic conditions. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D012627 Sebaceous Glands Small, sacculated organs found within the DERMIS. Each gland has a single duct that emerges from a cluster of oval alveoli. Each alveolus consists of a transparent BASEMENT MEMBRANE enclosing epithelial cells. The ducts from most sebaceous glands open into a HAIR FOLLICLE, but some open on the general surface of the SKIN. Sebaceous glands secrete SEBUM. Gland, Sebaceous,Glands, Sebaceous,Sebaceous Gland
