Percutaneous biopsy of carcinoma of the pancreas guided by angiography. 1976

U Tylén, and B Arnesjö, and L G Lindberg, and A Lunderquist, and M Akerman

Histologic verification of the angiographic diagnosis of carcinoma of the pancreas may be achieved by percutaneous, transperitoneal fine-needle aspiration biopsy. The method was used in conjunction with the angiographic procedure in 29 patients with tumors of varying size down to 3 centimeters in diameter. Positive diagnosis was obtained in 22. Complications were not encountered. Since the method is simple and harmless it is recommended whenever histologic verification is desired.

D009362 Neoplasm Metastasis The transfer of a neoplasm from one organ or part of the body to another remote from the primary site. Metastase,Metastasis,Metastases, Neoplasm,Metastasis, Neoplasm,Neoplasm Metastases,Metastases
D010179 Pancreas A nodular organ in the ABDOMEN that contains a mixture of ENDOCRINE GLANDS and EXOCRINE GLANDS. The small endocrine portion consists of the ISLETS OF LANGERHANS secreting a number of hormones into the blood stream. The large exocrine portion (EXOCRINE PANCREAS) is a compound acinar gland that secretes several digestive enzymes into the pancreatic ductal system that empties into the DUODENUM.
D010190 Pancreatic Neoplasms Tumors or cancer of the PANCREAS. Depending on the types of ISLET CELLS present in the tumors, various hormones can be secreted: GLUCAGON from PANCREATIC ALPHA CELLS; INSULIN from PANCREATIC BETA CELLS; and SOMATOSTATIN from the SOMATOSTATIN-SECRETING CELLS. Most are malignant except the insulin-producing tumors (INSULINOMA). D002277 Carcinoma A malignant neoplasm made up of epithelial cells tending to infiltrate the surrounding tissues and give rise to metastases.
