OBJECTIVE To evaluate a 20 years period of cataract surgery, in order to decrease the posterior capsule opacification. METHODS 3320 eyes after cataract surgery with posterior chamber intraocular lens was examined for Soemmering ring. This appears before posterior capsule opacification. CONCLUSIONS A very good clearing of lous cortex is very important in preventing posterior capsule opacification. If it also useful a correct hydrodissection.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007903 Lens Capsule, Crystalline The thin noncellular outer covering of the CRYSTALLINE LENS composed mainly of COLLAGEN TYPE IV and GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS. It is secreted by the embryonic anterior and posterior epithelium. The embryonic posterior epithelium later disappears. D002102 Cadaver A dead body, usually a human body. Corpse,Cadavers,Corpses
D002386 Cataract Partial or complete opacity on or in the lens or capsule of one or both eyes, impairing vision or causing blindness. The many kinds of cataract are classified by their morphology (size, shape, location) or etiology (cause and time of occurrence). D012189 Retrospective Studies Studies used to test etiologic hypotheses in which inferences about an exposure to putative causal factors are derived from data relating to characteristics of persons under study or to events or experiences in their past. The essential feature is that some of the persons under study have the disease or outcome of interest and their characteristics are compared with those of unaffected persons. D018918 Phacoemulsification A procedure for removal of the crystalline lens in cataract surgery in which an anterior capsulectomy is performed by means of a needle inserted through a small incision at the temporal limbus, allowing the lens contents to fall through the dilated pupil into the anterior chamber where they are broken up by the use of ultrasound and aspirated out of the eye through the incision. (Cline, et al., Dictionary of Visual Science, 4th ed & In Focus 1993;1(1):1) Phacoemulsifications
D019923 Capsulorhexis The making of a continuous circular tear in the anterior capsule during cataract surgery in order to allow expression or phacoemulsification of the nucleus of the lens. (Dorland, 28th ed) Capsulorrhexis
