OBJECTIVE To study the peripheral lymphocyte chromosome aberration in the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS The peripheral blood lymphocytes, from 28 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 20 normal controls were cultured with TC199 medium for this study on chromosome aberration. RESULTS The chromosome number aberration rate, structure aberration rate, micronucleus rate and cell aberration rate of the peripheral lymphocytes from the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were 8.68%, 10.89%, 1.83% and 8.65%, and these rates were significantly higher than those of normal controls, respectively (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS The above findings demonstrated the instability of chromosomes in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008214 Lymphocytes White blood cells formed in the body's lymphoid tissue. The nucleus is round or ovoid with coarse, irregularly clumped chromatin while the cytoplasm is typically pale blue with azurophilic (if any) granules. Most lymphocytes can be classified as either T or B (with subpopulations of each), or NATURAL KILLER CELLS. Lymphoid Cells,Cell, Lymphoid,Cells, Lymphoid,Lymphocyte,Lymphoid Cell
