Detailed description of an implantable directional Doppler flowmeter. 1976

D Cathignol, and J Y Chapelon, and J Jossinet, and B Lavandier, and C Fourcade

A Doppler flowmeter and the necessary modifications for implantation are described in detail. Since only part of the electronics was implanted a phase-locked loop had to be introduced in order to keep the flow measurement directional. The proper working of the apparatus is demonstrated in vitro and in vivo. As an example the result of flow studies in the aorta and the pulmonary artery after homotransplantation of the lung in dogs are given.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011651 Pulmonary Artery The short wide vessel arising from the conus arteriosus of the right ventricle and conveying unaerated blood to the lungs. Arteries, Pulmonary,Artery, Pulmonary,Pulmonary Arteries
D001775 Blood Circulation The movement of the BLOOD as it is pumped through the CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM. Blood Flow,Circulation, Blood,Blood Flows,Flow, Blood
D001783 Blood Flow Velocity A value equal to the total volume flow divided by the cross-sectional area of the vascular bed. Blood Flow Velocities,Flow Velocities, Blood,Flow Velocity, Blood,Velocities, Blood Flow,Velocity, Blood Flow
D004285 Dogs The domestic dog, Canis familiaris, comprising about 400 breeds, of the carnivore family CANIDAE. They are worldwide in distribution and live in association with people. (Walker's Mammals of the World, 5th ed, p1065) Canis familiaris,Dog
D004301 Doppler Effect Changes in the observed frequency of waves (as sound, light, or radio waves) due to the relative motion of source and observer. The effect was named for the 19th century Austrian physicist Johann Christian Doppler. Doppler Shift,Effect, Doppler,Shift, Doppler
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D001011 Aorta The main trunk of the systemic arteries. Aortas
D012212 Rheology The study of the deformation and flow of matter, usually liquids or fluids, and of the plastic flow of solids. The concept covers consistency, dilatancy, liquefaction, resistance to flow, shearing, thixotrophy, and VISCOSITY. Flowmetry,Velocimetry,Velocimetries
D013686 Telemetry Transmission of the readings of instruments to a remote location by means of wires, radio waves, or other means. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed) Telemetries
