The incidence of proximal deep venous thrombosis after total hip or total knee replacement and surgery of hip fracture in patients in Japan is more than 10%, and intermittent pneumatic compression (foot pump) or anticoagulation therapy should be performed after these surgeries to prevent venous thromboembolism. Early surgery and early walking exercise are most effective prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism for patients with hip fracture. The incidence of proximal deep venous thrombosis after spine surgery is low, and that of deep venous thrombosis after general surgery of lower extremity is nuclear, and gradual compression stockings or foot pump should be performed after these surgeries.
