[Lymphocyte transformation test in the diagnosis of occupational allergy (author's transl)]. 1977

U Voigt, and A Rothe, and G WAllenstein

In 139 persons occupationally exposed to compounds of chromium, formaldehyde and p-phenylenediamine lymphocytic transformation test (ltt) was performed to detect a delayed-type hypersensitivity. In patients suffering from either contact dermatitis or allergic respiratory diseases the findings of ltt were concordant only in about one third of the cases in comparison to patch testing, intracutaneous test, nasal provocation or inhalation test.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008213 Lymphocyte Activation Morphologic alteration of small B LYMPHOCYTES or T LYMPHOCYTES in culture into large blast-like cells able to synthesize DNA and RNA and to divide mitotically. It is induced by INTERLEUKINS; MITOGENS such as PHYTOHEMAGGLUTININS, and by specific ANTIGENS. It may also occur in vivo as in GRAFT REJECTION. D010655 Phenylenediamines Aniline compounds that contain two amino groups. They are used as a precursor in the synthesis of HETEROCYCLIC COMPOUNDS and POLYMERS. p-Phenylenediamine is used in the manufacture of HAIR DYES and is an ALLERGEN.
D002857 Chromium A trace element that plays a role in glucose metabolism. It has the atomic symbol Cr, atomic number 24, and atomic weight 52. According to the Fourth Annual Report on Carcinogens (NTP85-002,1985), chromium and some of its compounds have been listed as known carcinogens.

D005260 Female Females
D005557 Formaldehyde A highly reactive aldehyde gas formed by oxidation or incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. In solution, it has a wide range of uses: in the manufacture of resins and textiles, as a disinfectant, and as a laboratory fixative or preservative. Formaldehyde solution (formalin) is considered a hazardous compound, and its vapor toxic. (From Reynolds, Martindale The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p717) Formalin,Formol,Methanal,Oxomethane
