[Defensive reactions of gastropod molluscs. Humoral reactions]. 2005

G L Ataev, and E E Eremina, and A V Polevshchikov

Humoral protective reactions and their mechanisms in gastropod mollusks are considered based on the results of various investigations. It is important to note that lectines in molluscs, as well as in other invertebrates, are functional analogues of immunoglobulins in vertebrates.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D010455 Peptides Members of the class of compounds composed of AMINO ACIDS joined together by peptide bonds between adjacent amino acids into linear, branched or cyclical structures. OLIGOPEPTIDES are composed of approximately 2-12 amino acids. Polypeptides are composed of approximately 13 or more amino acids. PROTEINS are considered to be larger versions of peptides that can form into complex structures such as ENZYMES and RECEPTORS. Peptide,Polypeptide,Polypeptides
D006434 Hemocytes Any blood or formed element especially in invertebrates. Hemocyte
D006458 Hemolymph The blood/lymphlike nutrient fluid of some invertebrates. Hemolymphs
D006867 Hydrolases Any member of the class of enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of the substrate and the addition of water to the resulting molecules, e.g., ESTERASES, glycosidases (GLYCOSIDE HYDROLASES), lipases, NUCLEOTIDASES, peptidases (PEPTIDE HYDROLASES), and phosphatases (PHOSPHORIC MONOESTER HYDROLASES). EC 3. Hydrolase
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D000917 Antibody Formation The production of ANTIBODIES by proliferating and differentiated B-LYMPHOCYTES under stimulation by ANTIGENS. Antibody Production,Antibody Response,Antibody Responses,Formation, Antibody,Production, Antibody,Response, Antibody,Responses, Antibody
D012908 Snails Marine, freshwater, or terrestrial mollusks of the class Gastropoda. Most have an enclosing spiral shell, and several genera harbor parasites pathogenic to man. Snail
D014200 Trematoda Class of parasitic flukes consisting of subclasses Aspidogastrea and Digenea. The digenetic trematodes are the only ones found in man. They are endoparasites and require two hosts to complete their life cycle. D014201 Trematode Infections Infections caused by infestation with worms of the class Trematoda. Fasciolopsiasis,Metagonimiasis,Infections, Trematode,Fasciolopsiases,Infection, Trematode,Metagonimiases,Trematode Infection
D037102 Lectins Proteins that share the common characteristic of binding to carbohydrates. Some ANTIBODIES and carbohydrate-metabolizing proteins (ENZYMES) also bind to carbohydrates, however they are not considered lectins. PLANT LECTINS are carbohydrate-binding proteins that have been primarily identified by their hemagglutinating activity (HEMAGGLUTININS). However, a variety of lectins occur in animal species where they serve diverse array of functions through specific carbohydrate recognition.
