[Histophysiological characterisation of chorion. Histological, histochemical, and electron-microscopic investigations (author's transl)]. 1979

M Georgiewa, and Z Takewa, and W Makaweewa

Histological, histochemical, and electron-microscopic techniques were used to investigate the chorion in 15 women over the first four to eight weeks of normal pregnancy. Evidence was produced to maximum enzyme activity and lipoid accumulation between the sixth and eighth weeks. These findings were confirmed by ultrastructural observation. Data were collected on active exchange in x-cells. That exchange together with manifest delta 5-3-beta hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase were found to cause not only oxidative processes, but, with some reasonable probability, synthesis of steroid hormones in the chorion, as well.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007770 L-Lactate Dehydrogenase A tetrameric enzyme that, along with the coenzyme NAD+, catalyzes the interconversion of LACTATE and PYRUVATE. In vertebrates, genes for three different subunits (LDH-A, LDH-B and LDH-C) exist. Lactate Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, L-Lactate,Dehydrogenase, Lactate,L Lactate Dehydrogenase
D008995 Monoamine Oxidase An enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of naturally occurring monoamines. It is a flavin-containing enzyme that is localized in mitochondrial membranes, whether in nerve terminals, the liver, or other organs. Monoamine oxidase is important in regulating the metabolic degradation of catecholamines and serotonin in neural or target tissues. Hepatic monoamine oxidase has a crucial defensive role in inactivating circulating monoamines or those, such as tyramine, that originate in the gut and are absorbed into the portal circulation. (From Goodman and Gilman's, The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, 8th ed, p415) EC 1.4.3.4. Amine Oxidase (Flavin-Containing),MAO,MAO-A,MAO-B,Monoamine Oxidase A,Monoamine Oxidase B,Type A Monoamine Oxidase,Type B Monoamine Oxidase,Tyramine Oxidase,MAO A,MAO B,Oxidase, Monoamine,Oxidase, Tyramine
D011247 Pregnancy The status during which female mammals carry their developing young (EMBRYOS or FETUSES) in utero before birth, beginning from FERTILIZATION to BIRTH. Gestation,Pregnancies
D002823 Chorion The outermost extra-embryonic membrane surrounding the developing embryo. In REPTILES and BIRDS, it adheres to the shell and allows exchange of gases between the egg and its environment. In MAMMALS, the chorion evolves into the fetal contribution of the PLACENTA. Chorions
D005260 Female Females
D006025 Glycosaminoglycans Heteropolysaccharides which contain an N-acetylated hexosamine in a characteristic repeating disaccharide unit. The repeating structure of each disaccharide involves alternate 1,4- and 1,3-linkages consisting of either N-acetylglucosamine (see ACETYLGLUCOSAMINE) or N-acetylgalactosamine (see ACETYLGALACTOSAMINE). Glycosaminoglycan,Mucopolysaccharides
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D006867 Hydrolases Any member of the class of enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of the substrate and the addition of water to the resulting molecules, e.g., ESTERASES, glycosidases (GLYCOSIDE HYDROLASES), lipases, NUCLEOTIDASES, peptidases (PEPTIDE HYDROLASES), and phosphatases (PHOSPHORIC MONOESTER HYDROLASES). EC 3. Hydrolase
D006913 Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenases Enzymes of the oxidoreductase class that catalyze the dehydrogenation of hydroxysteroids. (From Enzyme Nomenclature, 1992) EC 1.1.-. Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, Hydroxysteroid,Dehydrogenases, Hydroxysteroid
D013385 Succinate Dehydrogenase A flavoprotein containing oxidoreductase that catalyzes the dehydrogenation of SUCCINATE to fumarate. In most eukaryotic organisms this enzyme is a component of mitochondrial electron transport complex II. Succinic Oxidase,Fumarate Reductase,Succinic Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, Succinate,Dehydrogenase, Succinic,Oxidase, Succinic,Reductase, Fumarate
