[Study of the quality of life in people with traumatic spinal cord injury]. 2006

Centers of research all over the world are accomplishing studies about quality of life in several chronic conditions, for promoting interventions that promote improvement. This fact extends to spinal cord injury patients. This is a study with the aim of evaluating the quality of life of traumatic spinal cord injury people in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Participating in the study, 32 paraplegic adult patients with complete traumatic spinal cord injury; most were male, aged 20 to 47 years old and 5 to 10 years of lesion. The instrument used for collection of data was The MOS 36-item Short-Form Health Survey. As results we found that the traumatic spinal cord injury patient possesses great compromising of the quality of life, in all your domains, mainly in what it refers to the "social aspects".
