Malignant mediastinal chemodectoma. 1975

A 20-year-old man with a posterior mediastinal mass and erosion of the rib proved to have a malignant chemodectoma. The case is of interest because of the rare location and malignant fatal course.

It consists histologically of rounded or ovoid hyperchromatic cells that tend to be grouped in an alveolus-like pattern within a scant to moderate amount of fibrous stroma and a few large thin-walled vascular channels.
