Institute of Dermatology and Venerology, Medical Academy, Sofia.

HbA2 and HbF were studied in 91 patients with different forms of psoriasis: 29 with psoriasis vulgaris placata (restricted forms); 31 with psoriasis generalisata and erythroderma psoriaticum; 21 with psoriatic arthritis; 10 with psoriasis pustulosa. Statistically significant increase of HbA2 was established in patients with psoriasis vulgaris placata (restricted forms) as well in patients with psoriatic arthritis. HbF is statistically significant increased in all forms of psoriasis. The authors suggest, that there is probably in psoriasis a disturbance in the synthesis of the globine chains, which is genetically dependent.

D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D011565 Psoriasis A common genetically determined, chronic, inflammatory skin disease characterized by rounded erythematous, dry, scaling patches. The lesions have a predilection for nails, scalp, genitalia, extensor surfaces, and the lumbosacral region. Accelerated epidermopoiesis is considered to be the fundamental pathologic feature in psoriasis. D005260 Female Females
D005319 Fetal Hemoglobin The major component of hemoglobin in the fetus. This HEMOGLOBIN has two alpha and two gamma polypeptide subunits in comparison to normal adult hemoglobin, which has two alpha and two beta polypeptide subunits. Fetal hemoglobin concentrations can be elevated (usually above 0.5%) in children and adults affected by LEUKEMIA and several types of ANEMIA. Hemoglobin F,Hemoglobin, Fetal
D006443 Hemoglobin A2 An adult hemoglobin component normally present in hemolysates from human erythrocytes in concentrations of about 3%. The hemoglobin is composed of two alpha chains and two delta chains. The percentage of HbA2 varies in some hematologic disorders, but is about double in beta-thalassemia. A2, Hemoglobin
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D015535 Arthritis, Psoriatic A type of inflammatory arthritis associated with PSORIASIS, often involving the axial joints and the peripheral terminal interphalangeal joints. It is characterized by the presence of HLA-B27-associated SPONDYLARTHROPATHY, and the absence of rheumatoid factor.
