[Wertheim-Meigs radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer stage IIB]. 2007

S Ivanov

OBJECTIVE Our aim was to examine the patients with stage IIB cervical cancer and the use of radical surgical approach-radical hysterectomy Wertheim-Meigs type. METHODS 450 patients were examined for the period of 1995 till 2006, all of them stage IIB cervical cancer. RESULTS The radical hysterectomy Wertheim-Meigs type was applied for all the patients in the group. The parametrial invasion correlates significantly with the metastases in the pelvic lymph nodes. The adjuvant radiotherapy is given for patients with high risky factors: positive lymph nodes, infiltration of the parametria and positive resection lines. CONCLUSIONS The use of radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection leads to better results in patients with IIB stage cervical cancer.
