Ocular Plastics Unit, Department of Ophthalmology, Prince of Wales Hospital, The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

The authors report a case of hydrogel scleral explant (MIRAgel) causing an incomitant strabismus, diplopia, enophthalmos and a dehiscence in the roof of the orbit secondary to pressure-related atrophy due to swelling of the explant occurring 10 years after its placement.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008279 Magnetic Resonance Imaging Non-invasive method of demonstrating internal anatomy based on the principle that atomic nuclei in a strong magnetic field absorb pulses of radiofrequency energy and emit them as radiowaves which can be reconstructed into computerized images. The concept includes proton spin tomographic techniques. D011102 Polyhydroxyethyl Methacrylate A biocompatible, hydrophilic, inert gel that is permeable to tissue fluids. It is used as an embedding medium for microscopy, as a coating for implants and prostheses, for contact lenses, as microspheres in adsorption research, etc. Glycol Methacrylate Gel,Hydroxymethacrylate Gel,PHEMA,Poly-Hema,Polyglycol Methacrylate,Gel, Glycol Methacrylate,Gel, Hydroxymethacrylate,Methacrylate Gel, Glycol,Methacrylate, Polyglycol,Methacrylate, Polyhydroxyethyl,Poly Hema
D012163 Retinal Detachment Separation of the inner layers of the retina (neural retina) from the pigment epithelium. Retinal detachment occurs more commonly in men than in women, in eyes with degenerative myopia, in aging and in aphakia. It may occur after an uncomplicated cataract extraction, but it is seen more often if vitreous humor has been lost during surgery.
