Scenedesmus obliquus Sexuality. 1965

The flagellated cells of two mixed strains of Scenedesmus obliquus can initiate a sexual cycle when grown at 15 degrees C in a defined medium lacking a nitrogen source. Clumps of five to ten cells, paired gametes, plasmogamy, and quadriflagellated zygotes were observed.
