A method is presented for high magnification, clinical examination and recording of the marginal fit of dental restorations. An endoscopic microscope used in conjunction with video recording facilities affords acceptable colour records of restorative procedures for monitoring purposes. The suggestion is made that the concept of 'fit' in the clinical context has not been adequately addressed. The technique described has other clinical and research implications.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008853 Microscopy The use of instrumentation and techniques for visualizing material and details that cannot be seen by the unaided eye. It is usually done by enlarging images, transmitted by light or electron beams, with optical or magnetic lenses that magnify the entire image field. With scanning microscopy, images are generated by collecting output from the specimen in a point-by-point fashion, on a magnified scale, as it is scanned by a narrow beam of light or electrons, a laser, a conductive probe, or a topographical probe. D002484 Cementation The joining of objects by means of a cement (e.g., in fracture fixation, such as in hip arthroplasty for joining of the acetabular component to the femoral component). In dentistry, it is used for the process of attaching parts of a tooth or restorative material to a natural tooth or for the attaching of orthodontic bands to teeth by means of an adhesive. Cementations
D003442 Crowns A prosthetic restoration that reproduces the entire surface anatomy of the visible natural crown of a tooth. It may be partial (covering three or more surfaces of a tooth) or complete (covering all surfaces). It is made of gold or other metal, porcelain, or resin. D003738 Dental Cements Substances used to bond COMPOSITE RESINS to DENTAL ENAMEL and DENTIN.
