[Lysozyme activity in diphyllobothriasis patients]. 1991

L A Gosteva, and V T Sergeeva, and N I Makarevich

A considerable decrease in lysozime activity has been detected in the serum of patients with diphyllobothriasis especially in the early period of invasion. A 13-20-fold increase in enzyme activity has been found in the urine of patients, which disappeared 1 month after treatment, indicating the normalization of the immune status after the recovery from diphyllobothriasis. The index of lysozyme activity may be used in combination with other tests for the evaluation of the treatment efficacy.

D009113 Muramidase A basic enzyme that is present in saliva, tears, egg white, and many animal fluids. It functions as an antibacterial agent. The enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of 1,4-beta-linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in peptidoglycan and between N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in chitodextrin.
