Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (IHSS) is a progressive cardiac disease known to induce sudden death occasionally. The authors tested echocardiography as a method of guiding myotomy, and observed its clinical usefulness as a safe surgical procedure for IHSS.
