[Serological study of BoLA class I antigens]. 1991

Typing reagents were prepared determining the class I antigens of the main histocompatibility complex in cattle (BoLA). The microcytotoxic test was applied to analyse 450 sera (reagents) obtained from cows postpartum. Testing these sera on the panel of lymphocytes from unrelated animals and calculating mutual correlations of the reactions, we determined 113 groups of similarly reacting sera (clusters) which determine 13 specificities of Class I BoLA complex. The majority of these correspond to the internationally approved BoLA antigens.

D015395 Histocompatibility Antigens Class I Membrane glycoproteins consisting of an alpha subunit and a BETA 2-MICROGLOBULIN beta subunit. In humans, highly polymorphic genes on CHROMOSOME 6 encode the alpha subunits of class I antigens and play an important role in determining the serological specificity of the surface antigen. Class I antigens are found on most nucleated cells and are generally detected by their reactivity with alloantisera. These antigens are recognized during GRAFT REJECTION and restrict cell-mediated lysis of virus-infected cells.
