[Effects of physical exercise on the parameters of carbohydrate metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus during rehabilitative treatment]. 1991

M I Balabolkin, and N I Ivanushchak, and V P Lapshin, and K V Degtiareva

The evidence obtained by the authors supports literature data on a beneficial effect of muscular exercise on carbohydrate metabolism in diabetics. It is thought necessary to control sharp fluctuations of glycemia. Provided these are mild and associated with lowered insulinemia, patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus could be recommended to continue training.

D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D001786 Blood Glucose Glucose in blood. Blood Sugar,Glucose, Blood,Sugar, Blood
D003924 Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 A subclass of DIABETES MELLITUS that is not INSULIN-responsive or dependent (NIDDM). It is characterized initially by INSULIN RESISTANCE and HYPERINSULINEMIA; and eventually by GLUCOSE INTOLERANCE; HYPERGLYCEMIA; and overt diabetes. Type II diabetes mellitus is no longer considered a disease exclusively found in adults. Patients seldom develop KETOSIS but often exhibit OBESITY. D005080 Exercise Test Controlled physical activity which is performed in order to allow assessment of physiological functions, particularly cardiovascular and pulmonary, but also aerobic capacity. Maximal (most intense) exercise is usually required but submaximal exercise is also used.
