The results of surgical treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media with or without cholesteatoma were presented in 708 patients over the period of ten years. Microtoilet of the ear and treatment of pathologic processes in the upper respiratory tract in the preoperative period the authors consider important for success in surgery. The best functional results were achieved with tympanoplasty bearing in mind adjustment of operative technic for each case depending on the nature and spreading of the process. The most frequent recurrences occurred in patients with cholesteatoma surgery (32%).
