A complex multidisciplinary approach to the periodization of the course of craniocerebral trauma (CCT) has been developed. For this purpose new data have been used on the mechanisms of craniocerebral injuries as well as the new possibilities of direct noninvasive visualization of the traumatic substrates and the responses of the brain. As applied to the distinguished periods of traumatic disease of the brain--acute, intermediate, and late-term--their duration is discussed with consideration for the clinical form of CCT. A classification of CCT sequelae is suggested.
