[The principles of the current periodization of the course of craniocerebral trauma]. 1990

L B Likhterman

A complex multidisciplinary approach to the periodization of the course of craniocerebral trauma (CCT) has been developed. For this purpose new data have been used on the mechanisms of craniocerebral injuries as well as the new possibilities of direct noninvasive visualization of the traumatic substrates and the responses of the brain. As applied to the distinguished periods of traumatic disease of the brain--acute, intermediate, and late-term--their duration is discussed with consideration for the clinical form of CCT. A classification of CCT sequelae is suggested.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D010507 Periodicity The tendency of a phenomenon to recur at regular intervals; in biological systems, the recurrence of certain activities (including hormonal, cellular, neural) may be annual, seasonal, monthly, daily, or more frequently (ultradian). D001930 Brain Injuries Acute and chronic (see also BRAIN INJURIES, CHRONIC) injuries to the brain, including the cerebral hemispheres, CEREBELLUM, and BRAIN STEM. Clinical manifestations depend on the nature of injury. Diffuse trauma to the brain is frequently associated with DIFFUSE AXONAL INJURY or COMA, POST-TRAUMATIC. Localized injuries may be associated with NEUROBEHAVIORAL MANIFESTATIONS; HEMIPARESIS, or other focal neurologic deficits.
