Paired optical-fiber switch for optical data-bus systems. 1979

A new type of optical switch, which is suitable for application to data paths with a loop bus-line configuration, is described. The switching action is obtained by moving a fiber directly. The insertion loss in the bypass mode is as low as 0.82 dB. Results of temperature, durability, and vibration tests are also described.
