Before the development of cochlear implants, the acquisition of oral and written language and consequently good school levels were barely expected from profoundly deaf children. Since then it has been largely demonstrated that with cochlear implants these objectives are realistic provided these children are implanted early, before the age of 4 years old and receive appropriated speech therapy. We present here the rehabilitation program proposed at our center to the very young users of cochlear implants. This program results from analysis and observations developed during 12 years of speech therapy dispensed to children and adults users of cochlear implants.
