OBJECTIVE A greater number of gay males, lesbians, and bisexual females or males (GLB) are "coming out" during adolescence. Discussion includes nursing implications. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this paper is to review the process of GLB disclosure, highlight the trend toward earlier outing, and discuss its implications for nursing practice. METHODS Sources include scholarly published literature, professional organization documents, and GLB advocacy publications. CONCLUSIONS Nurses need to update their knowledge of coming-out issues, as well as nondisclosing sexual behavior, to assess youth and family needs and direct care appropriately.
