Interferon induction by vesicular stomatitis virus and its role in virus replication. 1977

J Vilcek, and S Yamazaki, and E A Havell

Antibody against human fibroblast interferon increased the yields of vesicular stomatitis virus in human cells. The results show that endogenous interferon produced in the course of multicycle vesicular stomatitis virus infection depresses virus yields.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007372 Interferons Proteins secreted by vertebrate cells in response to a wide variety of inducers. They confer resistance against many different viruses, inhibit proliferation of normal and malignant cells, impede multiplication of intracellular parasites, enhance macrophage and granulocyte phagocytosis, augment natural killer cell activity, and show several other immunomodulatory functions. Interferon
D002460 Cell Line Established cell cultures that have the potential to propagate indefinitely. Cell Lines,Line, Cell,Lines, Cell
D000906 Antibodies Immunoglobulin molecules having a specific amino acid sequence by virtue of which they interact only with the ANTIGEN (or a very similar shape) that induced their synthesis in cells of the lymphoid series (especially PLASMA CELLS).
D014721 Vesicular stomatitis Indiana virus The type species of VESICULOVIRUS causing a disease symptomatically similar to FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE in cattle, horses, and pigs. It may be transmitted to other species including humans, where it causes influenza-like symptoms. Vesicular stomatitis-Indiana virus
