Organic illnesses generate emotional disturbances and emotional disturbances generate organic illnesses. The knowledge of the genesis of emotional and psychosomatic illness is of paramount importance in medicine. This paper puts in perspective the problem of emotional and psychosomatic disorders as presented to the family practitioner. It deals with a study of the incidence of emotional and psychosomatic illnesses in family practice, and there is a discussion of what causes these illnesses.
