In the treatment of posterior bite collapse, the orthodontic phase consists of three steps: uprighting of molar teeth, leveling of the mandibular arch and closure of anterior diastemas. During and after orthodontic therapy, the maintenance of periodontal health is important. For patients in which there is a reduced periodontium, splinting should be accomplished after the teeth are moved into their desired position.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008310 Malocclusion Such malposition and contact of the maxillary and mandibular teeth as to interfere with the highest efficiency during the excursive movements of the jaw that are essential for mastication. D010515 Periodontal Prosthesis Any restorative and replacement device that is used as a therapeutic aid in the treatment of periodontal disease. It is an adjunct to other forms of periodontal therapy and does not cure periodontal disease by itself. D014716 Vertical Dimension The length of the face determined by the distance of separation of jaws. Rest vertical dimension (VDR) is the lower face height measured from a chin point to a point just below the nose, with the mandible in rest position.
