[Treatment of multiple intracranial aneurysms]. 1990

In a total of 198 patients with intracranial aneurysms there were 18 with multiple aneurysms (9%). The aim of the preoperative diagnosis is not only the representation of the aneurysms, but also the evidence of the aneurysm that has causes the haemorrhage. The ruptured aneurysm and all aneurysms that can be reached via the chosen access are treated within one procedure. If a clipping of all aneurysms is not possible from one access, a second intervention is carried out two or three months later.

Most common are the saccular (berry) aneurysms located at branch points in CIRCLE OF WILLIS at the base of the brain. Vessel rupture results in SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE or INTRACRANIAL HEMORRHAGES. Giant aneurysms (>2.5 cm in diameter) may compress adjacent structures, including the OCULOMOTOR NERVE.
