[Reaction between cGMP and cAMP in their effect on muscle carbohydrate metabolism]. 1978

M N Pertseva, and Z P Zheludkova, and L A Kuznetsova

cGMP (10(-4)-10(-7) M) did not affect the activity of phosphorylase and glycogen synthetase from chicken sceletal muscles; but the cGMP prevented completely an effect of cAMP on the enzymes. This blocking effect was specific for cGMP (GMP did not exhibit the effect) and for cAMP (influence of calcium on the enzyme was not eliminated by cAMP). Possible mechanisms of the cGMP effects studied are considered: 1) stimulation of cAMP hydrolysis, 2) antagonism at the level of proteinkinase system. cGMP (10(-4)-10(-7) M) did not stimulate the phosphodiesterase activity at millimolar concentration of its substrate--cAMP.

D010727 Phosphoric Diester Hydrolases A class of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of one of the two ester bonds in a phosphodiester compound. EC 3.1.4. Phosphodiesterase,Phosphodiesterases,Hydrolases, Phosphoric Diester
D002642 Chick Embryo The developmental entity of a fertilized chicken egg (ZYGOTE). The developmental process begins about 24 h before the egg is laid at the BLASTODISC, a small whitish spot on the surface of the EGG YOLK. After 21 days of incubation, the embryo is fully developed before hatching. Embryo, Chick,Chick Embryos,Embryos, Chick

D006152 Cyclic GMP Guanosine cyclic 3',5'-(hydrogen phosphate). A guanine nucleotide containing one phosphate group which is esterified to the sugar moiety in both the 3'- and 5'-positions. It is a cellular regulatory agent and has been described as a second messenger. Its levels increase in response to a variety of hormones, including acetylcholine, insulin, and oxytocin and it has been found to activate specific protein kinases. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
